Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) is empowering young entrepreneurs to assist the government in fighting unemployment in the country.

The state-run mobile operator reaffirmed its commitment to boosting the economy through special support to young entrepreneurs at the start of a two-day seminar at the National Assembly on Monday 24, 2025.

The event hosted by the National Assembly via its Parliamentary Network for the Promotion of Private Entrepreneurship brought together young people from across the country.

Launch of Blue Money imminent

Speaking during the exercise, the General Manager of CAMTEL Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi disclosed that they are making significant strides to transition to 5G and improve quality internet service to businesses.

She further declared that CAMTEL is about launch its own electronic payment solution called “Blue Money” to facilitate financial transactions between businesses and consumers, especially in rural areas.

“We are very pleased as the national [mobile] operator to support the vision of the Head of State who told the youth ‘You have to dare’,” said Judith Yah.

She further added: “So these youths today have decided to go on their own, not to wait for employment but to be employers themselves. CAMTEL is there to support that vision, to make sure that with digitalization today, you can create your job at your home.”

The GM also stressed the indispensability of telecommunications in modern medicine, education, and other aspects of contemporary life.

Parliament lauds CAMTEL

Speaking during the event chaired by Deputy Speaker Hon Theophile Baoro, Hon Roger Milingui, president of the Parliamentary Network for the Promotion of Private Entrepreneurship saluted the massive turnout, which he said was proof that CAMTEL is held in high esteem.

“We would like to seize this opportunity to thank CAMTEL and the General Manager for making Cameroonians know what CAMTEL is doing because we have heard a lot of noise about CAMTEL. This morning we had the opportunity to know that CAMTEL is Cameroon,” declared Hon Melingui.

The event also saw the singing of a partnership agreement between CAMTEL and the Cameroon Business Incubator Network. The deal will facilitate access to CAMTEL’s telecom and digital services by young entrepreneurs.

“Thanks to this partnership, young people incubated in Private Higher Education Institutions (IPES) will be able to benefit from privileged access to CAMTEL services,” Judith Yah pointed out

The mobile operator equally revealed that it has interconnected universities , campuses, multimedia rooms and secondary schools in “partnership with the relevant ministries”.

This move underscores CAMTEL’s vision of driving connectivity, innovation and economic growth across Cameroon.

Participants hail initiative

Some participants expressed satisfaction and hope during the event.

Henri Zangue, executive member of SE2 startup, couldn’t hide his joy: “It’s a great opportunity for us to attend events like this one. It enables us to showcase what we offer. We’re very grateful for the invitation” he said explaining that SE2 focuses on health, education, society and the environment.

Besides young entrepreneurs and startupers, the event was attended state dignitaries, parliamentarians and other local elected officials among others.

It featured the award of special prizes to some stakeholders in the promotion of entrepreneurship in the country, among them were the Resident Representative of Africa Institute of Computer Sciences (IAI) Armand Claude Abanda and Senator and business tycoon Françoise Puene who is fondly called Mami Nyanga.
